Guwahati, Aug 29 : Assam Government will provide free laptop computers for students, who will secure first division in tenth standard examination in the state, from this year, a top official said.
The laptops will be provided under Anundoram Baruah award meant for first division holders in High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and High Madrasah examination 2010, started by Assam government in 2005.
The meritorious students will also be provided with certificates along with laptops, free training on LINUX operating system, open office and installation, special package of books, course materials on installation and handling of laptop and operating software.
Assam Education Minister Gautam Bora said, “The state government has decided to provide laptops to 19116 students, who secured first division in tenth standard examination held under the Secondary Education Board of Assam, State Madrassa Education Board, Assam, and Sanskrit Board Assam examination this year as part of the government’s move to promote IT education in the state.”
“Assam government had started the Anundoram Baruah award from 2005 and provided with desktop computer to the meritorious students in order to encourage computer and IT education in the state,” Bora added.
As many as 73 thousand students have already been provided with desktop computers under the Anundoram Baruah award started in 2005
The state Education Minister further said, all government high schools and higher secondary schools across the state have already been provided with computers for promotion of IT education.
