Guwahati, Jul 26 : Hundreds of 'gaon burah' (village headmen) of Dimasa village of North Cachar Hills district today sat on demonstration near the capital complex Dispur demanding a separate 'Dimaraji' state.

The village headmen had been in the capital since yesterday and had participated in a day-long discussion on the issue of a separate state for Dimasa yesterday.

The demonstration, organised by the Dimasa Students’ Union and Dimasa People’s Forum, was participated by Dimasa people from other sections also.

They have demanded creation of a separate ‘Dimaraji’ state constituting the Dimasa dominated areas.

The demonstrators also urged the initiation and speedy progress of talks with the ceasefire faction of the Dima Halom Daogah (DHD).

The NC Hills district had been witnessing large scale violence, with militants holding the district to ransom on one hand and communal strife between Dimasa and Zeme Nagas creating turmoil on the other.
