DIBRUGARH, July 21 – ULFAs plan to carry out major terror strikes in various installations and industrial sites to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations came to light today following recovery of a incriminating chart along with cache of explosive materials and destructive items or the bank of the river Burhidehing at Sessabeel in Dhaman village under Tingkhong PS. Acting on specific information the Army from the 318 Field Regiment and the Tingkhong police unearthed the drawing, showing sketches of bridges and pipelines. The other recoveries include 8 detonators, 5 metres of electric wire, 5 packets of gelatin, 1.5 kg of RDX, 2.5 kg of Para -Nitro- Toluene, 55 rounds of live ammunition of AK 47, 9 batteries, 1 country-made pistol, 5 rounds of ammunitions of .22 rifle, hand grenade, 5 ULFA flags, outfits writing letter pad, 2 sets of Army uniform and medicines. All the items were buried under the earth amidst thick forestation.

It is suspected that the outfit was working out maps to target major road bridges over Burhidehing river and pipelines of Oil and Gas. Major Arjun Singh of the Regiment based at a camp in Sarojini tea estate confirmed that the banned outfit was devising maps and routes to conduct series of terrorist acts on and ahead of Independence Day. He said cadres from the Charlie group of ULFAs 28 battalion under Chief Operations Commander Bijay Das alias Bijay Chinese had sneaked into the districts of Upper Assam. An extortion note signed by Bijay Das was also found amongst the recoveries, Major Arjun Singh said.

Meanwhile the security forces have intensified anti-insurgency operations in the region and efforts are on to foil attempts of terror strikes by the ULFA. Police as well as paramilitary forces have also increased patrolling and frisking.
