Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha conference on Jan 25-27

NAMRUP, Dec 28– Brisk preparations are on under the aegis of Namrup branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha to host the 40th biennial conference of Dibrugarh District Sahitya Sabha at its ‘Kabi Ramgogoi Khetra’ premises with a three-day agenda from January 25.

Synchronizing with the celebration, book-fair, exhibition, cultural procession, book release ceremony, different literary competitions will also be organised in a phased manner.

The grand cultural nite will be attended by legendary Assamese singers Khagen Mahanta and Archana Mahanta.

As per information available from Pradip Gogoi, joint secretary of celebration committee, veteran literateur and newly elected president of Asam Sahitya Rongbong Terang and Dr Nagen Saikia, ex-president Asam Sahitya Sabha have already consented to attend the valedictory session.

APWU office-bearers: The annual general election of Assam Petrochemicals Workers’ Union, Namrup was held on December 21, at the union office complex. A large number of employees turned up and cast their votes in support of their candidates for the session 2008-2009.

After counting of votes, Dimbeswar Chetia was declared elected as the president while Ranjit Saikia was elected as the vice-president and Sailen Gogoi was elected as organising secretary, Bakul Basa and Dharani Chetia as the field secretaries and Joyanta Buragohain was elected as the treasure. It is to be added that Nabin Saikia was declared elected as the general secretary without contest.

It is hoped that the newly elected APWU will make efforts for the overall development of APL raising its voice against all odds.
