Assam: Car thieves flee from police lockup

Nagaon, August 4 : Three car thieves fled from lockup of a police station in Assam's Nagaon district on Monday morning, officials said. However, one was arrested later the same day (Monday).

"Three car thieves- Anuwar Hussain, Sahjahan Ali and Ajay Singh- broke the lockup at Samaguri police station in the district and escaped around 3.30am, while the constable on duty, Nizamuddin Ahmed, went outside the police station to drink water," said a senior police official.

However, later the same day (Monday), Singh was arrested. Search is on for the other two escapees.

The car thieves were arrested by police at the National Highway-39 near Numaligarh on July 30, when they went to Dimapur in Nagaland for selling a dumper.

It is to be mentioned that, two prisoners fled from Nagaon Civil Hospital on July 30, when they were under treatment in police custody.
