Law likely on mandatory medical services to the needy

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the state government was planning to enact a law making it mandatory for private sector hospitals to provide emergency services to the poor and needy.

" It is mandatory that no people are deprived of medical attention due to the lack of finances and we are considering the introduction of a Bill in this regard" , the chief minister said while inaugurating a new private hospital here.

Gogoi further claimed medical facilities in the state has improved remarkably during the last nine years of his government's rule.

"The medical colleges and hospitals have been provided with the latest facilities and as a result many patients do not have to go outside the state for treatment", he added.
