A male leopard cub was beaten to death and his carcass slung on a tree top by tea garden labourers in upper Assam's Golaghat district today.
The year-old leopard was sighted in the morning hours roaming inside South Hengera tea estate by the labourers, who brutally beat him to death, Golaghat divisional forest officer N Anand said.
The labourers were irked after a female leopard attacked one of them 10 days ago while she was plucking tea leaves and injured her.
The garden manager had informed the forest department some time back that a leopard was roaming in the garden area and yesterday the forest staff chased away a full grown leopard into the nearby forest.
