Guwahati, Apr 6 (PTI) Assam government today launched an ambitious scheme aimed at uplifting the economic condition of elderly women living below poverty line.
The two schemes -- 'Baideu' (elder sister) and 'Nabou' (sister-in-law) -- under the social welfare department were formally launched by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
The schemes were launched in line with the government's commitment towards improving the lot of women, Gogoi said speaking on the occasion.
'Baideu' is meant for lonely and unmarried women who are 45 years and above, while 'Nabou' is for lonely widows living below the poverty line.
