ASDC protests Railway Budget 2010-11

HAFLONG, Mar 2 : The ASDC, North Cachar Hills District Committee expressed great dissatisfaction over the Railway Budget, 2010-11, lamenting that it had no new provison of budget even for essential infrastructure in NC Hills district when the Railway route which is passing through the heart of NC Hills and that too covering most of the distance in NC Hills , on the way between different parts of the country particularly between Lumbding and Silchar-Agartala-other regions of the country, serves as a life-line not only for the prople of NC Hills but also, more importantly , for the people of other parts of the country, stated a press release.

In the budget there is no provision for establishment of Computerized Counter Centre for reservation with all necessary installations at Haflong and Maibang, construction of multi-functional complex at Haflong and Maibang, construction of multi- speciality hospital at Haflong and so on.

Even there is still no clear picture of the outcome of the ongoing establishment of the Broad Gauge Railway Station located at Jatinga as to whether infrastructure like construction of pucca roads up to Haflong town, waiting sheds, multiplex complex, parking place and other projects/ schemes near the Railway Station have been taken up so that it can be convenient for the passengers of Haflong town area and other parts of NC Hills district or is it just a Railway Station for mere stoppage of Broad Gauge Train.

The Railway Budget 2010-11 reflects a step-motherly treatment on the part of the Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi towards NC Hills district. The party also blamed the local MLA GC Langthasa and other Congress-I leaders of NC Hills district for their callousness in the matter when the Railway Budget 2010-11 turned a blind eye to the problems of NC Hills district.

Besides the ASDC NC Hills District Committee strongly urged the Railway Minister to take a pragmatic approach by giving most special priority for expeditious completion of the Lumbding-Silchar Broadgauge conversion and demanded the Government that advertisement of Railway jobs be conducted at the appropriate place so that biased decision is not taken, the people of NCHills should also be recruited to the extent of some percentage in the jobs under Railway Department and the members from NC Hills district be included in any Railway Broad Committee. It also decided to launch a series of agitational programmes in the district in case its demands are not met by the Government.
