Imphal, Feb 9 : Inspector general, Assam Rifles (South) Maj Gen CA Krishnan today inaugurated a newly constructed additional building for Zion's Children Home at Mapao Khullen in Senapati district in commemoration of the 175th anniversary of Assam Rifles.
The building was constructed under Military Civic Action Programme taken up by 39 AR of 9 Sector under HQ IG AR (S).
Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen CA Krishnan asserted that the Assam Rifles has been taking up a number of development programmes to help the people of Manipur.
He said, today's children will decide the future of the nation.
It is very important to try to improve the living conditions of the children of the state including the orphans.
The Assam Rifles has been doing what it can in this regard, he said and stressed the need on guiding the future pillars of the nation to the right path.
Assuring further that the AR will continue to help the people of the villages in the hills in bringing development, Maj Gen Krishnan said that no efforts will be spared to provide drinking water to the villagers of Mapao Khullen by taking steps under the Military Civic Action Programme.
Founder of Zion's Children Home, RK Thotreingam said that the children home has been functioning without any kind of assistance from either any funding agency or the government since 2008 .
About 19 children including from Nagaland are staying at the children home.
The home is being run with the help of well-wishers and sympathisers, he said and thanked the AR for constructing the additional building of the children home.
Commander, HQ 9 Sector, AR, Brig Gajendra Prasad, CO 39 AR, village chiefs, a large number of villagers and media persons were present at the function.
