Guwahati, Aug 7 : A team of journalists, which recently visited the trouble-torn North Cachar Hills district, has alleged the involvement of Church elements in the ethnic clashes ripping apart the district and covert hand of the proscribed NSCN in the violence.
Commenting that the trouble of NC Hills is basically agrarian, the report said, ''It has undercurrents of socio-religious sentiments too,'' adding, ''going by the violent events, it was found that the majority of the people affected are Hindus, belonging to both the Dimasa and the Zeme Naga communities.'' Sampadak Sangam, a body of newspapers, had sent a team of journalists to the affected areas of NC Hills in the wake of ongoing violence there. The team has come out with its report on preliminary findings and the final report would be submitted to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and authorities concerned, a release said.
The visiting team claimed that a hidden third force was operating in both the Dimasa and Zeme Naga communities, pointing to extremist group NSCN's demand for a greater 'Nagalim', consisting of NC Hills areas and the Dimasas opposition to such a demand.
The Dimasas, on the other hand, have been simultaneously demanding a separate state of 'Dimaraji'.
The team visited the relief camps opened for both communities and maintained that the people were being kept in a 'pathetic condition'.
The report mentions that Dimasa community comprises 90 per cent Hindus and 10 per cent Christians while the Zeme Naga community comprises 70 per cent Hindus and 30 per cent Christians approximately.
The report maintained that the projects under state government were running under Army protection, but those under the NC Hills District Autonomous Council (NCHDAC) were in doldrums.
