Tinsukia, Aug 10 (PTI) A gas leak from a pipeline at well number 365 of Oil India Limited (OIL) was detected this morning at Langkashi area under Bordubi police station in Assam's Tinsukia district.
"Company personnel found huge quantities of gas spewing out of the pipeline after thieves tried to steal portions of the pipe," OIL Production Director Nitin Bharali said here.
The leakage was still continuing and OIL has asked ONGC authorities to help them in controlling it.
People residing in the nearby areas have been shifted to safer places by OIL authorities.
The police have, however, ruled out the possibility of a sabotage by the militant outfits in the run-up to Independence Day.
