Resentment over non-upgradation of Naharkatia into subdiv hq

NAMRUP, Dec 23 Resentment has been growing among the public of the area as the government has for too long neglected their demand to upgrade Naharkatia into a subdivisional headquarter under Dibrugarh district.

The main thrust into the creation of Naharkatia as a sub-divisional headquarter has rested upon the decentralisation of administrative function to facilitate easy reach of the common people. But that very-long standing public demand has got left in the labyrinth of executive lethargy, giving rise to disenchantment.

It is apparent that most of the districts of upper Assam are lowly urbanised and almost all the areas are rural based except the district headquarters that manage all sorts of administration, trade and commerce. Dibrugarh district is no exception to these as all administrative units are situated at its head quarter. People from far-off locations have to visit Dibrugarh even for a minor job leaving aside untoward factors encountered by them.

It is worthmentioning that the original Dibrugarh district had been bifurcated into three districts viz Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh. But the newly-created Lakhimpur and Tinsukia districts have already become the proud owner of three subdivisions each whereas the original Dibrugarh has hitherto been deprived of having got even a single sub-division.

As per information available from the reliable sources that almost all the infrastructural facilities are available in Naharkatia for the creation of sub-divisional headquarter than any other places of the district. Hence the populace of 120 Naharkatia LAC has once again urged the State government to fulfill their demand by upgrading Naharkatia to subdivision headquarter. The onus now solely rests upon Pranati Phukan, local MLA and Deputy Speaker, State Legislative Assembly to pressurize the State Government regarding the fulfilment of the said issue.
