Assam archer bags bronze

Guwahati, July 20: Assam archer Sanjay Boro bagged a bronze medal in the eight-day World Archery Youth Championships that concluded at Ogden in the United States on Saturday.

The national ace among the budding archers won the bronze in the cadet men’s individual recurve, defeating H. Antonio Smith of Mexico 110-105 for the playoff for the third and fourth places.

Boro is a trainee of the Special Area Games Centre, Kokrajhar, under the Sports Authority of India’s Guwahati sub-centre.

He was also part of the Indian cadet men’s team that finished fourth in the recurve, losing to Italy 199-215. Assam lads Parashan Nath and Mangal Ho were the other members of the team.

Indian girl Deepika Kumari bagged a gold in the individual cadet women’s recurve, defeating Russian opponent S. Tsyrempilova 115-109 in the final.

The Indian cadet women’s team finished with a bronze in the compound event, defeating Russian Federation 211 T28-211 T26 in the playoff.
