The current heat spell in Assam has made life miserable for the people with the state recording an increase of nearly 6 degree in the average temperatures. Along with the heat spell, people are falling prey to various ailments, with doctors fearing an increase in water-borne diseases in case the hot weather continues for another two to three days. Hospitals have been receiving a continuous inflow of patients, most of them showing thyphoid, diarrhoea, jaundice, high fever, hepathisis and dysentery.

Doctors said people should drink plenty of water besides avoiding direct sunlight for a long spell of time. People should avoid laborious works in sunlight besides taking other precautions from the scorching sun. Since most of the diseases are water borne, the people have been advised to drink water after boiling it.

They have also been advised to carry water from home as this will, in turn, help prevent contracting such diseases. With hospitals witnessing an ever increasing inflow of patients suffering from diseases arising out of the current dry weather, doctors say that by following some simple precautions, many of these diseases can be kept at bay.
