TAMENGLONG, Apr 30: The violence between the Zeliangrong community and Cacharis in North Cachar continued today also. The situation turned bad when suspected Zeliangrong Chabuan retaliated and attacked a Dimasa village last night.
Well placed sources informed the IFP that the Zeliangrong Chabuan had burnt down 25 houses of Yekulua village between Boreneu and Guilong in North Cachar Hills district of Haflong in Assam. Before burning of the 25 houses the two communities exchanged gunfire and in due course 10 Dimasas were killed and another 16 seriously injured, the source said.
It may be mentioned that the clashes between the two communities of Zeme sub tribe of Zeliangrong and the Cacharis (Dimasas) started after suspected DHD(J) cadres, also known as ‘Black Widow’, killed nine innocents of the Zemes sub-tribe of the Zeliangrong community.
Both Zeliangrong and Cacharis started fleeing from their villages and took shelter at safer places.
