Kokrajhar, Mar 1 : Three persons died and seven were injured, five of them seriously, when a truck from Bhutan turned turtle at Patgaon Sonapur in Assam’s Kokrajhar district around noon today.
Sources said the vehicle was on its way to Nanglam from Phuntsholing, both in Bhutan, and was passing through Kokrajhar district when it fell into a roadside ditch along NH 31(C) because of a technical snag.
A Bhutanese citizen, Doji Wangshu, 32, died on the way to hospital. His wife, Shring Peldy, is being treated at the Kokrajhar Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital. A resident of Joygaon in West Bengal, identified as Deepak, died on the spot while another resident of Joygaon, Ali Rausal, died in the hospital.
The vehicle was carrying 9 passengers, four Bhutanese and five Indians. Most of them were labourers. The driver was also Bhutanese.
“I was sitting in the rear of the vehicle on top of the cement with six others when it turned turtle and fell into the ditch. Later, I found myself in hospital,” Md Nijam, one of the injured, said.
