Scribe attacked

Guwahati, March 13 : A senior correspondent of The Telegraph, Pankaj Kumar Sarma, sustained injuries when a group of hooligans attacked him at Lakhimi Nagar here yesterday.
Sarma is currently undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. 
The doctors said Sarma had a fractured nose and needed to undergo several tests.
According to a complaint lodged by Sarma with the Hatigaon police station, the hoodlums, numbering six to seven, attacked him around 1.15pm on Wednesday. 
They waylaid Sarma, who was travelling on a motorcycle, and “attempted to murder” him by a flinging a brick.
The attackers, who are suspected to have been inebriated, snatched Sarma’sgold chain, wristwatch and some cash. One of them was on a motorcycle (AS-01R/6257).
The FIR said an attacker threatened to shoot Sarma if he reported the matter to the police. The culprits also took away the key to Sarma’s motorcycle. The key was returned after two passersby and a policeman deployed at the residence of the assistant director-general of police (Special Branch) intervened.
Additional SP Debojit Deuri said the police have identified Rajib Nath, Niren Choudhury, Simanta Kalita and Dulu Nath as the main accused. All of them are absconding. A hunt is on to arrest them.
