Development call, a tad too late

Here’s what you, the reader, had to say about civic amenities & cellphone misuse
Who’s to blame
One has been reading in newspapers about the improvements being made by the government in Guwahati.
Though it is heartening to know that serious attempts are being made to develop the city, the question on our minds is whether it is too late in the day or not.
With deterioration of the quality of amenities increasing day by the day, how long will the people of Guwahati suffer like this?
With virtually no planning for the last few decades, it will take a few more years to feel the impact of development.
At the same time, one is also hearing about reforms being carried out to improve the working of the corporation. This will certainly mean an increase in the cost of services being provided by the government and the people will expected to pay for this.
With the level of confidence of residents in the government in providing amenities already low, the quantum of improvement remains debatable.
In fact, the government should do a random survey for public opinion before they bring about sudden changes.

A student with a mobile phone
I appreciate the role of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), in imposing a blanket ban on the use of mobile phones inside the examination halls by students as well as invigilators.
Students cannot use mobile phones since there have been instances in the past of the gadgets being used for malpractices or “cheating”. Some students even attempted to receive answers via text messaging — particularly in mathematics and science.
Some invigilators were also found speaking over mobile phones in the examination halls. Even though mobile phones have become an essential part of our daily lives, it can also become a nuisance at times.
Most people do not bother to keep their cellphones on silent mode in theatres and functions.
Some even drive while speaking into their mobiles, despite a host of fatal accidents.
It is high time that we devised and followed some decorum for mobile usage.
