VIPs in Assam rushing through ‘’schemes”

Guwahati, Feb 25 : The VIPs in Assam are rushing through the unveiling of schemes and declaration of policies, besides doling out financial packages fearing early poll notification by the Election Commission(EC).

Ranging from the inauguration of flyovers to the foundation stone laying of boys’ hostel, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been keeping a hectic schedule with over three such programmes filling up his daily list of engagements.

”Most of the schemes were in the pipeline for a long period of time. We are ensuring that they do not get delayed by the guidelines of the EC,” Mr Gogoi said.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said,”It is true that we have sought political mileage before the Lok Sabha polls. On the other hand, the infrastructure of various projects is also ready.

They could have been inaugurated after the general elections. But we have opted to flag them off early.”

Meanwhile, Assam Tourism Minister Rakibul Hussain presented the new state tourism policy before the Chief Minister. The industrial policy, after being ”lapsed” for over five months, was yesterday unveiled by Assam Industry Minister Pradyut Bardoloi.

On the other hand, the Opposition in Assam is not amused.

”They are taking a chance. Let them do. We are going to throw them out this time,” Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) president Chandra Mohan Patowary said.

Mr Patowary was referring to the alliance between AGP and BJP for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
