KOLKATA, Feb 16 : Tripura got off to a winning start in the East Zone Vijay Hazare cricket championship, defeating Assam by 29 runs in their first match at Jadavpur University campus ground on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Tripura amassed 232 runs in 47.1 overs, thanks to Nitish Shetty's brilliant 128, while Assam could manage 203 for nine wickets in stipulated 50 overs.
Nitish, who adorned his innings with 15 boundaries, paired up with Rana Dutta (51) to produce 145-run partnership.
Assam's Dhiraj Goswami was the most successful bowler who scalped four wickets for 35 runs, while Krishna Das bagged three for 48.
Chasing a modest 233, Assam batting department put up a sloppy show with only Dipak Sharma (58) and Dhiraj Goswami (31) offering some resistance.
For Tripura, Vineet Jain took four wickets for 27 runs, while Rana Datta bagged two wickets for 45 runs.
