Assam to get new narco lab

Guwahati, Feb 3 : Assam will get state-of-the-art forensic facilities, including a narco analysis lab, which will assist in probing complicated cases.
Director of the Assam Forensic Science Laboratory R.P. Gohain today said new facilities such as narco analysis laboratory, brain-mapping and audio video forensics will be created within a year in a bid to “encounter complicated and newer crimes”.
Speaking after the inauguration of Forensic Science Week, which got under way at the FSL campus at Kahlipara today, the director said setting up of modern facilities would enable the laboratory to render better services. It would also help the police and other investigating agencies to nail down culprits and solve complicated cases.
In the absence of a narco laboratory at present, the cases that require narco analysis are mostly sent outside the state, delaying investigation.
FSL deputy director M.N. Bora said one-third of the cases received by the laboratory last year were related to counterfeit currency.
“A majority of the cases related to fake currency were received from Mizoram, followed by Assam,” he said.
