Assam State-level horticultural show concludes in Tezpur

 TEZPUR, Feb 9 – The first state-level annual horticultural show organised with a five-day-long programme here at the Gangacharan Bhattacharya Kshetra, Neheru Maidan from January 30 concluded on February 3.

The mega event was jointly organised by the Assam Horticultural Society (AHS) and Agriculture Department of Sonitpur district. The show included a workshop on technology mission, improvement of bamboo productivity and marketing for sustainable livelihood, awareness programme for medicinal and aromatic plants etc. Various competitions, release of souvenir, felicitation and prize distribution too formed a part of the programme.

As per the scheduled programme, on January 30 at 9.00 am Kailash Talukdar. President of AHS unfurled the flag. It was followed by a orientation workshop for technology mission, seminar on improvement of bamboo productivity and marketing for sustainable livelihood, inauguration of exhibition by Pramila Rani Brahma, Minister of Agriculture, WPT and BC etc.

The following day at 10 am a seminar on ‘Awareness on medicinal and aromatic plants’ was held which was followed by another seminar on, ‘Integrated, Nutrient management of horticultural crops’. A documentary was subsequently screened by WWF, India.

On February 1, a seminar on ‘Multiple cropping with special reference to horticulture’ and an interaction of stake-holders for value-addition and marketing of horticultural crops and training on crop diversification was held.

On February 2, a seminar on ‘Enhancing farmers’ income through composite farming and watershed development programme and its sustainability’ was held. The closing ceremony was held on February 3, wherein the souvenir Uddyan Jeuti was released and 10 best farmers and competitors were falicitated.

The closing ceremony was chaired by Dr Lakhi Goswami, noted social worker.
