Detenu Escapes from Apna Ghar

PANAJI, Jan 9 : The 17-year-old boy from Assam who was arrested for moving around in a suspicious manner in the restricted naval area in the port town of Vasco escaped from Apna Ghar, Merces.

Apna Ghar is a observation home for children in conflict with law.

The boy, a resident of Rupsi village in Dhubri district, Assam, escaped from Apna Ghar on Tuesday afternoon, police sources said.

"He had gone for lunch with a few boys. But after lunch was over, the staff found that the boy was missing.

We were informed at 2 pm and tried to trace him at bus stands and railway stations but to no avail," said Old Goa police sources.

The minor, who was arrested on December 24, was in police custody for some days, before his age was verified. He was later sent to Apna Ghar for further inquiry by the Juvenile Justice Board.

An offence of criminal trespass and intent to commit any criminal offence, by entering the naval premises at Bogda, near Sada, was registered against him.

The minor's escape has once again exposed the lax security at Apna Ghar. In 2007, on Diwali day, some children had escaped from Apna Ghar.
