UDP MLA quits MPA

Shillong , Apr 1 In another jolt to the NCP-led Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA), the lone woman MLA of its ally United Democratic Party (UDP) Ampareen Lyngdoh today resigned from the party and the assembly, which is currently under suspended animation.
"I have lost complete faith in the leadership of my party, especially after the political crisis that has evolved and intensified,"she told reporters immediately after her return from New Delhi, where she had reportedly met AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders.

When asked if she was joining Congress, she said,"the people of my constituency will decide that."

With Lyngdoh&aposs resignation, the strength of the MPA has come down to 28 (including the Speaker). Five MLAs are under suspension on anti-defection grounds.
