MUSHALPUR, Dec 23 : The Baksa Development Block in Baksa district came under NREGA from April 1 last. Works on a total of 11 projects is at present going on in the district where a total of 1,350 job card holders are engaged in the works.
The works being carried out include – digging of a fishery tank, plantation as well as earth-filling at Bunbari bund at Pub-Bunbari worth Rs 10 lakh, road construction from Baganpur to Bahadur Singh Brahma ME School worth Rs 24.996 lakh and irrigation canal cutting at Birkhon donga bund at B Block worth Rs 13,940 lakh, renovation of fishery tank at Pachim Athiabari worth Rs 4 lakh, construction of irrigation donga at Pamuapathar worth Rs 2 lakh,
errosion protection from Baramchari Lokpala to Barimukh along Moradiring river worth Rs 4.95 lakh, construction of community fishery tank at No 2 Bhogpara Society near Paraputa bund worth Rs 5 lakh, boulder pitching and earth-filling near Tihu rivulet at Adalbari worth Rs 4 lakh, plantation at west East Sengrapara near Sikhna Jwhwlow school worth Rs 3 lakh, construction of fishery tank at Uzirbari worth Rs 5 lakh and construction of fishery tank at Tatlapara Rs 5 lakh.
A monitoring group comprising Project Director, Baksa, BDO, Baksa Development Block, representative of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Baksa and leading citizens visited the work sites recently and expressed satisfaction over the quality of work carried out in the remote areas of Indo-Bhutan border under the said block.
The group maintained that the response of womenfolk to NREGA works is outstanding in these areas. However, shortage of financial institutions such as banks, post offices has caused delay in opening of account of the job card holders though the SBI, Mushalpur and AGVB, Mushalpur have been doing their level best to fulfill the need.
Cheques of Rs 10,000 each under National Family Benefit Scheme were given to a total of 134 family beneficiaries in the Baksa circle in Baksa district for the year 2007-08 while old-age pension was given to 3,357 pension holders under National Old Age Pension in Baska Development Block for the year 2007-08, official sources said.
