GUWAHATI, Dec 28 – A three day training programme for microfinance institutions and NGOs was conducted recently by NEDFi, EDA Rural System Pvt Ltd and Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) with support from Master Card Foundation. The theme of the training programme was financial analysis for Microfinance Institutions.
Altogether 21 participants from Assam, Manipur and Tripura took part in the programme. All the participants were scholarship holders of Master Card Foundation. The scholarship was given to those microfinance organisations whose loan beneficiaries were 1,000 or more. In course of the programme the participants were taught about organisation sustainability, how an organisation can achieve profit by reducing losses and improve efficiency and organisational performance.
Eighty per cent of the course fee of Rs.10, 000 was borne by the Master Card Foundation and the rest met by the microfinance organisations themselves.
Seikhothang Haokip from Manipur who belongs to the organisation named Weaker Section Development Society (WSDS) stated, “The three day training course and lecture content was fine, but now we realize that there is so much more to learn that we would not mind attending another programme with more information”. Bijan Saha from Tripura commented, “Participants need to learn more about profitability analysis. Otherwise, the training programme was of very high standard.”
Partha Sarathi Talukdar, Asst. Manager, NEDFi who coordinated the programme was confident that it would induce a new lease of life in the body of microfinance in the region. Somendranath Baner-jee and Monika Agarwal, senior training specialists from EDA Rural Systems, Gurgaon conducted the programme.
Finally, SK Baruah, General Manager and Company Secretary, and Olee Borah, Asst. Manager, NEDFi interacted with the participants and distributed certificates to them at the valedictory function.
