1.5 lakh children immunized in N Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Dec 28 – More than one and a half lakh children below five years of age here immunised in Lakhimpur district during the Pulse Polio Immunisation programme on December 21-23 last.

The programme aimed to immunise 1,58,730 children in the district but that figure was exceeded as upto 1,59,254 children were actually covered under the programme.

On December 21 health workers immunised children at 853 pulse-polio centres in North Lakhimpur, including all Primary Health Centres. The health workers of Lakhimpur District Health Department administered pulse-polio vaccine in door-to-door service to 21,991 children under Dhalpur PHC, 33,922 children under Bihpuria PHC, 37,287 children under Nowboicha PHC, 31,916 children in Boginadi PHC 9452 children under Ghilamora PHC 16,581 children under Dhakuwakhona PHC and 8105 children in North Lakhimpur town. A total 87,652 children were immunised at pulse-polio booths whereas 65,178 children were administered the vaccine during door-to-door visits in Lakhimpur district. Similarly, 1,613 children were administered the pulse-polio drops on mobile visits and 4040 children were provided the same at pulse-polio booths set up at street corners, markets, fairs and bus stands. A total 3557 health workers rendered their services during the immunisation programme in Lakhimpur district.

Workshop: A five-day workshop on the songs of Parvati Prasad Baruah, the first of its kind in the district, is being organised by the Sadar Sangeet Mahavidyalaya on from January 5-9 next.

A strong reception committee has been formed for smooth conduct of the workshop. The committee to be chaired by Uday Sankar Hazarika includes Deepa Das Hazarika as secretary, Anuj Bhuyan as vice-president, Lakhyada Chelleng Sonowal and Lalit Konwar as joint secretaries, senior artistes like Deben Buragohain, Hemen Gogoi and Bhabani Buragohain as advisor. The son of Parvati Prasad Baruah, Pranaviram Baruah, Jagya Bezbaruah, Kavita Talukdar and Mauchumi Mahanta will attend the workshop as trainers and resource persons.
