Guwahati: A person was trampled to death by a wild elephant today in Assam's Golaghat district.
The person, identified as 30-year-old Sukuram Munda, was trampled to death in Mikirchand tea estate while he was taking his cattle for grazing this morning, official sources said here.
The elephant was suspected to have come from nearby Karbi Anglong hills after straying from the herd, the sources said.
The forest guards from nearby Numaligarh forest beat office have launched a search operation for the elephant who escaped into the forest after trampling Munda.
