Sibsagar (Assam), Nov 10 : Mediapersons today decided to boycott all government functions for its alleged failure to take action against some Youth Congress workers for assaulting a photojournalist in Assam's Sibsagar district.
A meeting held under the aegis of Sibsagar Press Club took the decision to boycott all government functions after they submitted a memorandum to district administration demanding the arrest of the workers involved in the assault.
A photojournalist, Firoz Ahmed, was allegedly assaulted by some Youth Congress workers while he was taking photographs of some closed shops during the 12-hr Sibsagar bandh called by the human rights organisation Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS).
The MASS had called the bandh to demand the release of one of its arrested leaders but Youth Congress members were opposed to the bandh and were seen preventing people from enforcing the bandh.
