Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi today launched the Centre's new 15-point programme for the welfare of minorities by distributing cheques to the beneficiaries in Kamrup district.
At a function held at Amingaon, Gogoi distributed cheques under the programme called the Multi Sectoral Development Project for Welfare of Minorities.
Speaking on the occasion Gogoi said his government had been committed towards alleviating the socio-economic lot of the minorities, tea garden workers and tribals.
The minister for Minority Development Nazrul Islam said the programme would be soon launched in 12 more districts of the state for which the government had received Rs 703 crore from the Centre.
