2 hurt in Assam chemical blast

GUWAHATI: Two labourers were injured when a bottle containing acid-like chemicals exploded in the upper Assam town of Tinsukia on Wednesday.

Police said the explosion took place on the premises of a scrap dealer. The injured were admitted to Assam Medical College.

A quick response team from Tinsukia police said the bottle exploded when the two labourers were rummaging through scrap materials.

At the moment, the state is on hogh alert following reports that Ulfa and NDFB may target some installations in the run-up to Independence Day. Every year, most underground outfits ask people to boycott August 15 functions across the North-East.

On Tuesday, police found a 12-kg IED at a market place in Gogamukhin Dhemaji district. They suspected that the explosives were brought by Ulfa Ulfa militants.
