Guwahati (PTI): Sixteen people were killed and 25 others injured in four different mishaps in Assam on Friday, police said.
Six people were killed on the spot and eight others injured when a truck and an auto-rickshaw collided head-on at Simulubari in Goalpara district this morning.
The dead include two women and three children and the injured, two of whom are in critical condition, have been admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
In yet another mishap six labourers were killed on the spot and eight others injured seriously when the mini-truck in which they were being taken to a construction site collided head-on with a speeding truck at Chabua Beesmile area in Dibrugarh district, police said.
Three members of All Assam Students' Union were killed and seven others injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling to a meeting overturned at Sepon in Sibsagar district.
Another youth was killed and two others seriously injured when their hit a wayside tree near Jorhat Law College in Jorhat district.
The dead was identified as Amita Phukan, a prominent businessman of the town, the police added.
