Lakhimpur , June 14 : Flash floods today inundated 50 villages following a breach in an embankment of Singora river in this Assam district where over 25,000 people have been affected.
The embankment was breached early this morning near Dolhat Tea Estate under Naoboicha sub-division of the district and the flood water has overtopped the National Highway 52, official sources said.
More than 25,000 people have been hit by the flash floods and the authorities have launched a rescue operation to shift them to safer places, they said.
