GUWAHATI, Jan 2 : Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today announced a number of initiatives aimed at boosting the development process besides effecting a 15 per cent hike in interim relief to all government employees’ salary, pending finalisation of the Pay Commission report. Interacting with the media, Gogoi said that one lakh additional employments would be generated in the government sector this year, and an entrepreneur commission would be set up for developing entrepreneurship skills and establishing linkage between education and business at a cost of Rs 500 crore.
With the interim hike of 15 per cent in government employees’ salary, they now stand to enjoy a 25 per cent increase in interim relief. Salary of casual employees has also been enhanced to Rs 3,000 from Rs 2,500.
Some other measures included spending of Rs 500 crore in the social sector in addition to what had already been announced, 126 new model hospitals for every constituency, Sati Joymoti cultural complex at the historic Jerenga Pathar in Sivasagar, construction of concrete bridges in interior areas under a special scheme, etc.
Gogoi further said that the seats in the State engineering colleges would be increased to 3,000 from the existing 800 and the total scholarship under the Education Department would be hiked to 1 lakh from the existing 60,000, while the value of scholarships would be doubled.
For promoting tourism, the Raas festival and Bhaonas would be promoted in a big way, he added.
